Specialist Grief & Bereavement Counselling

What is Grief?

Grief is our normal and natural response to the loss of someone or something important to us. Each of us will experience grief at some point in our lives and our individual experience of grief is unique to us. Acknowledging loss and finding ways to adapt and live our lives with compassion around our grief is essential to our overall health and well-being, both now and into the future.

As well as providing a safe and non-judgemental space for you to talk openly, my role is to work with you to:

  • explore and find safe ways of coping with the often painful and uncomfortable symptoms of grief and loss such as changes to appetite, sleep, headaches, fatigue, sadness, confusion, anger, guilt, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, which at times may feel overwhelming
  • support you in coming to terms with the reality of the loss and its impact on you
  • explore ways to adjust and cope with the changes in your life following your loss.

There are many different types of loss I can help you with, which include:

  • death of someone significant in your life
  • chronic illness and life-limiting illness (palliative conditions)
  • change in health status such as a recent life-changing diagnosis or deterioration
  • life transitions such as leaving home and entering into an aged care facility or having to accept help and assistance from others such as formal services at home
  • pet bereavement

Counselling and support is also available for:

  • carers (including family and non-family members) of those with a chronic or life-limiting illness (palliative condition) or disability
  • paid carers working in aged care facilities and in home care services.
